Instrument-assisted adjustment on a patient's upper back

Instrument-Assisted Chiropractic Adjusting in Winston-Salem

Not every chiropractic adjustment has to be performed entirely by hand. At Erickson Clinic of Chiropractic, instrument-assisted adjusting provides another way to deliver an adjustment, with the depth and strength of the impulse adapted to what is needed.

Another Tool for Chiropractic Adjusting

Instrument-assisted adjusting is one of the chiropractic techniques Dr. Erickson uses alongside hands-on methods. He works with several adjusting instruments, including Impulse® and Activator® instruments as well as the Erconia adjustor.

The Erconia adjustor delivers impulses that can vary in both depth and strength. Depending on the situation, the setting can range from very gentle to a deeper, more forceful impulse.

Adjusting the Approach to the Patient

One advantage of having different chiropractic techniques and instruments available is the ability to vary the approach. Some patients may need a very gentle adjustment, while others, such as a larger athlete, may call for greater depth or force.

The same flexibility may be useful when patients come in with different concerns. Someone experiencing neck pain, low back pain, or headaches, for example, may have different examination findings and needs. Dr. Erickson can determine whether an instrument-assisted adjustment, a hands-on technique, or another approach may be appropriate based on what he finds.

Instrument-assisted adjusting doesn’t replace hands-on chiropractic care at the practice. Instead, it gives Dr. Erickson another method he can use when examining and adjusting the spine.

Different Methods With a Common Goal

Whether an adjustment is performed by hand or with an instrument, the focus remains on addressing the spinal finding identified during the examination.

Dr. Erickson has training in 14 different chiropractic adjusting techniques, and instrument-assisted adjusting is one of them. Having different approaches available allows him to determine how he wants to address the findings in front of him rather than relying on one method for every adjustment.
